People are assholes and can't be
changed. That's the thesis of this editorial. Have you ever
confronted someone about something they've been doing that's
just...stupid? It could be something small as the way they brush
their teeth or it could be as big as the way they think. No one ever
wants to step up like a jerk and tell someone what they are doing is
bugging you if they've been doing it for years. But when someone
does get around to it, thinking that they it's for the better of the
friendship/family/relationship or whatever. They are in a heap of
trouble when they do.
The confronter would present
problem and the person with the problem, I'll call that person the
confrontee, would deny it. I experience something like this over the
weekend and it was just hell to listen to. The confronter would
bring up examples and the confrontee would alter the situation to
fit his/her needs. They think whatever they need to to stay stable,
they are not the one with problems, you are if you're bringing them
up. This person over the weekend would have excuses after excuses,
sometimes irrelevant to the argument, just so she wouldn't have to
admit it. It's not that she didn't want to change, people always
want to change for the better...right? But who would change if they
don't have to or if they don't have a problem? Their mind is set up
so they would counter any of that threat from being acknowledged.
So my thesis for this editorial is
really that, "People are assholes and don't want to change."
Some say they've changed or want to change, but most don't want to
do it bad enough to actually do it.
So a word of advice, don't confront
anyone or try to change anyone cuz you know they're not going to
anyway and more likely than not, you're gonna ruin a relationship
over it. Confrontation is a big thing. Unless you have balls or have
nothing left to lose, DON'T DO IT! |
